The Tribal Historic Preservation Department's mission is to preserve the Tribe's cultural heritage as a living part of the current time by preserving not only the historic properties but also the Tribe's language, traditions and cultural life.
Historic Preservation
Goals
Management, research, interpretation, protection and development of sites of historic significance on Tribal lands.
Consult with Federal, State, Local and Tribal agencies to ensure compliance with historic preservation responsibilities.
Ensure Anishinaabe Bimaadiziwin Kinoomaagewin (life teachings) and Anishinaabemowin (language) are continued for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians and other entities.
Objectives
Create capacity of the Historic Preservation Department to complete mission and goals through staffing, policy, procedure, facilities development, and appropriate training.
Seek Grant funding where and when appropriate.
Coordinate cultural, historical and traditional events of Tribal entities.
Respond to National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and related requests and issues.
Inventory historic properties, items or collections and archives for preservation.
