Program Descriptions

General Welfare Assistance Program 2022 COVID-19 Pandemic Assistance Program
The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribal Council has established this program to provide relief to LRBOI Tribal Members who are experiencing financial hardship due to the lingering effects of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) Health Pandemic. Through the ARPA, LRBOI will provide assistance to each eligible applicant for the reauthorization period of 2022 & 2023.
2022 COVID-19 Pandemic Assistance Program

Low-Income Energy Assistance
This program is to provide short-term assistance to Tribal members who are experiencing an energy crisis and meet the program eligibility guidelines. Assistance is available in all states.

LIHEAP – Low Income Home Energy Assistance
This is a D.H.H.S. grant-funded program available to assist Tribal members experiencing heating and energy crises and meet the program eligibility guidelines. This program is available to members residing in the nine-county service areas of Kent, Lake, Manistee, Mason, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Ottawa, and Wexford.

Food Assistance
This program provides short-term assistance to low-income members who are experiencing a food or dietary need crisis and meet the program eligibility guidelines. Assistance is available in all states.

Rental and Mortgage
This program is to provide short-term assistance to Tribal members who are experiencing a housing crisis and meet the program eligibility guidelines. Assistance is available in all states.

Elder Meal Program (Title VI)
This program provides nutrition, social interaction, and supportive services to Tribal Elder Members. The service will be provided at the Aki Community Center where a nutritious meal will be served and activities and informational presentations will be provided. Over-the-phone intake is available to Tribal Elders interested in participating in this important and beneficial event. The intake process takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. When attending the first meal you will complete the registration process and will only have to do this one time. Elder Chore Assistance
The Elder Chore Assistance Program is designed to provide limited assistance for elder chore services as identified in the categories in this section. This program is not intended to be a complete resource for elder chore assistance. All chore services must be documented on the Elder Chore List of Services Rendered form.

  • Snow Removal from driveway and sidewalks
  • Weather stripping around doors and windows
  • Grass cutting, leaf raking and removal, and general clearing of debris around the home
  • Gutter cleaning
  • General cleaning of the household including but not limited to dusting and cobweb removal, vacuuming, trash removal, bathroom cleaning of toilets and water closets, dishwashing, laundry, scrubbing floors and walls, cleaning of appliances, washing windows, stripping and making of beds
  • Circumstances that are outside the scope of items listed may be applicable to the program scope only if left un-serviced pose a threat to the health and safety of the elder.

Emergency Transportation Assistance
The Emergency Transportation Assistance Program assists members experiencing a transportation crisis. The program scope for assistance is the repair or replacement of mechanical and/or electrical items required for proper vehicle operation and maintenance of safety items. Assistance is available in all states.e

Other Services

  • Referral assistance in finding assistance organizations and/or agencies to assist with unmet needs.
  • Interdepartmental Referral Services that provided interdepartmental coordination and collaboration with tribal service departments when assisting members.
